History of the Basilica Towards the end of the ninth century, where the Ete Morto river flows into the Chienti (a territory which today coincides with the countryside of Casette d'Ete, in Sant'Elpidio a Mare), a small Benedictine monastery was born, perhaps on the remains of a pre-existing 5th century Christian basilica. The place is so strategic that the bishop of Fermo, Theodosius, and the emperor Charles III the Big (grandson of Charlemagne) will transform the Abbey of Santa Croce into one of the first and most powerful abbeys in the Marche region. The consecration took place on September 14, 887. The Abbey would be the spearhead of a defense system aimed at blocking the Saracens along the Chienti valley and would be a reference for emperors who supported it with donations and protections. From the ninth to the thirteenth century, it was an economic, social, cultural power. After the "struggles for the investiture", with the papal power prevailing over the imperial one, for Santa Croce it is the beginning of an irreversible crisis and decadence. In 1291, he lost his autonomy: the last abbot, Philip, excommunicated for not having subjected himself to the Cistercians, had to abandon the monastery. The properties of Santa Croce will pass to the Cistercians of Fiastra, then to the bishop of Fermo. In 1749, bishop Alessandro Borgia was responsible for a restoration work, while the bishop, Andrea Minnucci, in 1790 transformed the abbey complex into an agricultural farmhouse, heavily tampering with the structure. The birth of the Abbey is linked to the legend of the romantic and tragic love story of Lothair and Imelda.

GOAL SUNSET - WALK BETWEEN MORESCO AND MONTERUBBIANO A non-demanding route with a gentle gradient ideal for: families with children over 8 years of age with a minimum of walking training; panoramic views; for those who love to immerse themselves in nature and in spontaneous and spring blooms; for those who adore medieval villages set between sea and mountains A sunset walk between the villages of Moresco and Monterubbiano dedicated to landscape, nature and photography! The walk will also be a small photography laboratory where we will try to immortalize the most evocative corners of this path with some suggestions on the framing and composition of the images and then participate FREE and for those who want it, in a small photo contest. No special equipment is needed, just a mobile phone! The photos will then be projected and submitted to the jury on the evening of 12/08 during the Taste Marke and the first classified will receive a prize! We will start from Moresco and through secondary roads and country paths we will arrive in Monterubbiano where, after completing the tour of the walls with spectacular views, a rich tasting awaits us! Immediately after returning to Moresco on foot at night with a short route. Clothing and necessary equipment: Comfortable shoes or trekking shoes, sneakers are not recommended. Water and snacks in tow. Charged torch for re-entry. Camera or mobile phone for taking pictures. Possible cancellation of the excursion: The guide reserves the right to cancel the event if the weather conditions do not allow a smooth and safe performance, the excursion can be changed or canceled on the day of the event. A non-demanding route with a gentle gradient ideal for: families with children over the age of 14 with a minimum of walking training; panoramic views; for those who love to immerse themselves in nature and in spontaneous and spring blooms; for those who adore medieval villages set between sea and mountains recommended to do before lunch to stimulate the appetite !! Length of the route: about 8 km Difference in height: + 250 mt Difficulty: Tourist T, easy Itinerary: 9.00 am The route starts from the medieval center of Moresco. We will reach one of the highest points of the route thanks to the Heptagonal Tower, from where you can enjoy a spectacular 360 degree view. We will descend to the beautiful church of Santa Maria dell’Olmo, and then resume the path that will lead us to Lapedona, in the enchanted forest and Convent / Hermitage of Saltareccio. Not far away, we will go to discover the mysterious Oak of the Witches. 12.00 Arrival in the center of Lapedona and visit to the Church of San Nicolò 12.30 Tasting of typical products with the Marke brand The route is not demanding and with a very gentle gradient. Therefore it is not tiring and is ideal for families with children who are trained in walking. MANDATORY CLOTHING: sneakers, hat, sunscreen. RECOMMENDED CLOTHING: layered clothes, trekking poles, at least 1.5 liters of water, some snacks / dried fruit, a camera, a spare to keep in the car and even in your backpack.
